Identifying Crazy Ants
Crazy ants (Paratrechina longicornis) are small, fast-moving ants known for their erratic, unpredictable movements. They range in color from dark brown to black and measure about 1/8 inch long. Crazy ants form large, aggressive colonies with multiple queens, enabling rapid population growth. Only reproductive males and queens have wings for mating flights. These ants are scavengers, feeding on sweets, proteins, and grease. Crazy ants are especially problematic because they invade homes, electrical equipment, and machinery, causing damage and short circuits. Their unpredictable movement patterns make them difficult to control, and they spread quickly across areas. Effective management usually requires professional pest control to reduce infestations and prevent damage.
