Identifying Bumblebee
Bumblebees are large, fuzzy insects with short, stubby wings and are easily recognized by their black-and-yellow coloration. Larger than honeybees, they don’t produce as much honey but are essential pollinators. Their wings beat over 130 times per second, and their heavy bodies create vibrations that trigger flowers to release pollen—this is called buzz pollination. Bumblebees are among the best at this, making them vital to many crops and wild plants. Found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, they thrive in habitats ranging from deserts and forests to Arctic tundra. While other animals also pollinate, bumblebees are particularly efficient. An interesting fact: only female bumblebees have stingers, and they generally sting only when threatened.
